As a school we value independence in our young people and we aspire for them to as independent as possible as they become young adults. We believe that through meaningful work experience, with a local organisation, our students learn the practical skills required for employment in the future. We aim for all of our students to play a full part in their community once they leave school and work experience can help them to develop both the personal and professional skills and network in order to maximise the chances of them finding employment later in life. Employment for our students means financial independence, it means being able to live independently and to go out and have a social life which many of us take for granted. Work experience in the beginning of their journey towards a fulfilling life. We are always looking for new partners to work with who can offer valuable work experience to our students.
Our Year 10 students go out on a 2 week block in November, March and June. We aim to get our Year 11s out for one day per week for as much of the academic year as possible. We work flexibly with employers and young people and we match the skills and interests of our students through the use of interviews and vocational profiling. We offer work tasters and interviews with the employer so that they can meet each other beforehand and we co-ordinate this all in house to ensure a high quality service to both our young people and our employer partners.
