Sport Premium

Sports-Premium

The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum (commenced April 2013), to provide new and substantial school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.

We will be spending our funding on improving the quality of sport and PE for all of our primary students. Our school will receive £16,000 plus an extra £10 per primary pupil each year. The funding can on be spent on the provision of high quality PE throughout curricular and extra-curricular activity.

West Lea School is a Specialist Sports College and we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our students. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our students.

The Sports Premium is designed to help our primary department to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities we offer our pupils, we endeavour to deliver the highest standard PE lessons and ensure our facilities are up to date and modern however, the Sports Premium allows us to maximise our skills and facilities and enables West Lea to provide unique activities that under normal circumstances we may struggle to offer, for example;

  • Hiring qualified PE specialists to work alongside and upskill teachers when teaching PE.
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions and increasing participation in the school games
  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits
  • Improving the quality of PE and school sport delivery

We are very excited about the new opportunities that our funding will allow us to do. The Sports Premium funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions.
